August is here and now it really feels like the 2nd half of the year! With that in mind, I’ve noticed that my beauty style has really changed. I can’t remember the last time I did a full glam Instagram look. I’ve noticed I’m embracing my natural features and going really soft on my makeup looks.
It isn’t to say I don’t like Instagram makeup, I’m just really enjoying bringing out the features that I already have.
On that note, let’s start with my beauty favourites for the month.
July Beauty Favourites
MAC Dusky Rose Times Nine Palette
I’m sure this has made an appearance in a previous monthly favourites post but I really am loving this compact eyeshadow palette. I really can wear day and night eye makeup looks with this set. It’s so versatile and the colours are so neutral for my eye colour. I can’t go wrong with it.
If I go for a dark smokey eye it doesn’t look too overpowering and if I decide to go for a natural fresh eye look using the shimmery shades in the palette, it helps emphasises my eyes.
Every day what I use is a brown eyeliner pencil and smudge it on my top lash line. I then layer it with the shimmer shade called “In My Element” and it gives my eye look that little bit of wearable glitter for the daytime.
Dose of Colours Matte Liquid Lipstick in Desert Suede
This is one of my most used liquid lipsticks that I’ve been wearing on a weekly basis in the month of July. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but I’ve been quiet lately on all my Noted Beauty channels. I haven’t really been feeling myself (I’m not going to go into too much detail) but what really perks me up….. is lipstick!
This is what I love about makeup, I can spend hours painting my face and then the feeling I get after I finish is pure fulfilment. It really does feel like therapy to me when I’m feeling down. Lipstick has the same effect on me. If my mood is a little off, I like to wear lipstick to make me feel good on the inside. It also helps that it makes me feel nice on the outside.
This shade is beautiful because it’s the slightly darker version of my lips, so it’s not too dark for everyday wear. I really love the formula because I can eat and drink through it, without it fading away.
Benefit High Beam Liquid Highlighter
This has been a long time favourite for me ever since I started wearing makeup! It was actually one of the first high-end makeup products I bought.
What I love about this product is that if you apply it onto the high points of your cheeks, it gives you this “lit-from-within” glow. I wear this most days and then I like to layer a powder highlighter on top.
July Book Favourites
The Friendship Cure by Kate Leaver
I read this book throughout the month of July and it’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve read in a long time. Have you noticed that there are plenty of books about romantic relationships but never about friendships? That is what drew me to this book.
For the first time in my life, I value real, meaningful friendships over romantic relationships. In fact, ever since the beginning of the year, I’ve made cultivating my existing friendships with my valued friends a priority over making time to find romance. It’s not to say I haven’t been dating, I definitely have been putting myself out there. But I’ve come to learn that your closest friends will always be there and romantic relationships will always come and go. Your friendships are really the constant thing that stays in your life.
This book really helped me realise what I wanted in friendships and I started becoming more proactive in choosing who I spend my time with. I’m over superficial relationships and those frenemy type of friends. It’s not something I value, in fact, I never really did value these relationships, I just put up with it.
I’m in my mid 20’s and although I have a lot of life to live, I realise time is precious and I no longer want to waste my time with things that don’t bring value to my life anymore. So if you’re having trouble culling down important friendships in your life and trying to find the meaning behind what it means to be a friend or having one….this book is for you!
