August Favourites & Highlights

august beauty favourites

August was such a tough month for me! Work was so hectic but on the positive side.. I managed to experiment with some new content for Noted Beauty Blog’s Instagram! If you haven’t already heard, I’m beginning to attempt to take my own portraits, this is a new style of photography (new to me) called “advanced selfies” which is something I’ve learnt off @steph.ling and @sorelleamore. I’m currently participating in the Sorelle Amore’s Selfie University course, and hopefully, this will help me improve my pictures and post more of myself on @notedbeautyblog!

Other than discovering a new hobby, everything else has kind of being super crazy. It gives me reassurance that I went through another crazy month grateful for all the new lessons learnt and memories created. #grateful #thistooshallpass

Now onto the favourites of the month. As always let’s start with beauty favourites!

August Beauty Favourites

I honestly was using the same old makeup but towards the end, I started to venture out and use other products too! This month my focus with my makeup style was to keep it fresh, glowly and even-toned. I noticed my skin lately hasn’t really been even in tone and I found myself having to use a base that really helped with that problem. I also experimented with some new skincare that was sent to me to try!

Laneige Cushion BB Cream

I first bought this back in Hong Kong in 2016. I purchased this after seeing a relative of mine use it and she swears that it does the best in covering up imperfections. So I thought I’d give it a go and it also came with a refill cushion as well.

Since then I’ve refilled it and used it so many times but then I packed it away and forgot about it for awhile. I took it out in the last two weeks of August out of no real reason but because I hadn’t used it in quite some time.

I honestly have to say, I’m impressed yet again! It really does have the best coverage and it has SPF 50+ in it! I only wear this during the day and it evens out the skin tone so well which was perfect!

I tried finding this particular one online but I think it may have been discontinued. However, you can try the Pore Control, Whitening or the Hydra Radiance versions. This is a Korean brand so the shade rade may be limited, something to bear in mind!

Bondi Chic Skincare

I was given the opportunity to try out this fairly new skincare brand. Bondi Chic is all natural skincare and contains no toxic chemicals. Their range is made with over 40 natural ingredients including (but not limited too):

  • Kakadu plum
  • Blue Mountains spring water (fresh!)
  • Papaya
  • Aloe vera
  • Noni (Miranda Kerr’s fav)
  • Chamomile.

As you can tell they really do embody the natural and toxic free package. These days this type of quality is really important for consumers who are conscious of what they put in their bodies but most importantly, outside their bodies too.

My favourite products from the range that I was able to try was their Australian Blue Mountains Natural Spring Water Hydrating Mist (which has the freshest smell ever in a mist!) and the Four Seasons Bio Enzyme Essence Serum. These two products I’ve been using everyday for the last two weeks, and even though you can’t really determine the difference in your skin after four weeks, I just love how they smell and feel on the skin.

I’ll report on the range and my thoughts on my Instagram stories in the coming two weeks when I’ve tried them out for the full four weeks.

August Book Favourites

This month I dived into a really beautiful book that touched on life and death. Intriguing, yet one of the saddest books I’ve ever read, I think this one might be one of the books I will never forget! These types of books are what I like to call a “life gem” because it’s a book that changes your perspective on life. It makes you see the bigger picture.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

when breath becomes air

This non-fiction memoir is written by a neurosurgeon, who in his last year of residency he is diagnosed with lung cancer. Well, the sad part…I’m sure you don’t need me to really tell you what happens. But what really matters is that Paul writes about the meaning of life in the face of death.

I don’t like revealing too much of a book as you all would know. And besides, I’m terrible at explaining stories but I really felt this touched my heart. It made me feel all those superficial and unimportant things I was upset over in the last month were so tiny. Living your life with meaning and things that bring value to you is so much more important! I literally took all those shit things that happen to me in the past month in a small box and stepped on it so hard, that I began to refocus my attention on myself! Much needed especially after the year I’ve been through!

August Music Favourites

I LOVEEE ARIANA GRANDE’S NEW ALBUM SO MUCH. Enough said.

Also, check out this Spotify playlist called “Mellow Beats”, it’s a fashion lookbook YouTubers dream!
